How it works

How to build a case timeline in four simple steps.

Nothing to install, nothing to learn. You add what you remember, Case Timeline does the rest.

Add an event

Enter a date, a short factual title (what happened), and an optional note for the detail. If a date is uncertain, give your best estimate and write "approximately" in the note. Best to record it roughly than not at all.

It sorts itself

The moment you add an event it slides into the right place in date order, grouped by year. You never have to reorder anything by hand. Your story builds itself in front of you.

Tag what it is

Mark each event as a message, document, medical, police or other entry. The colour-coded tags let you, and a lawyer, see at a glance where the evidence sits and where the gaps are.

Export to share

When you are ready, Export opens a clean, print-friendly version in a new tab. Save it as a PDF, email it to a lawyer, or print it to bring to court. A draft chronology in hand makes that first appointment count, and Legal Aid suggests preparing one before you go.

What makes a chronology actually useful.

A few simple habits, drawn from how lawyers and courts read these documents.

  • Stick to facts and dates. A chronology is what happened and when. Leave your interpretation, feelings and argument out of it; those belong in your statement or submissions, not the timeline.
  • Note where the proof is. Against each event, the note is the place to record what backs it up, "see text 14 Mar", "GP letter", "bank statement". That turns your timeline into a map of your evidence.
  • Be honest about rough dates. If you are not sure, write "approximately" or give a range. For something that was said, "words to the effect of" is the phrase courts use.
  • Keep it focused. Include the events that matter to the issue, and little else. A tight, clear timeline is easier to follow and harder to argue with.

Privacy, the whole time. Every event you add lives only in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored on a server. Only you decide what to export and who to share it with.

Ready when you are.
