Privacy

Your matter stays yours.

Case Timeline was built privacy-first because the events you are organising are personal. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to your information.

In one line: the builder runs in your browser. What you type is not sent to us unless you choose to create an account and save it. We do not sell your information, and there is no advertising on this site.

The free builder: nothing is uploaded

When you use the timeline builder without an account, the events you type stay in your browser on your own device. They are not transmitted to our servers. If you close the tab without saving, they are gone.

If you turn on the optional “Keep on this device” setting, your entries are stored in your browser’s local storage: still on your device, still not uploaded to us. You can clear that saved copy at any time from the builder, or by clearing your browser data.

When you export a PDF, JSON file or printout from the free builder, that file is generated in your browser and saved by you. We never see it.

If you choose to create an account (optional)

An account is optional. It exists so you can back up your timelines, reach them from another device, and create a read-only link to share with a lawyer. If you create one, we store:

  • Your email address: to identify your account and send you account emails (for example, a setup link or a password reset).
  • A hashed version of your password: we store a one-way hash, not your actual password. We cannot read it.
  • Your timelines: the events you choose to save to your account, so they are there when you sign back in.
  • Two-factor authentication data: if you enable it, the secret is stored encrypted.
  • Basic security logs: such as sign-in attempts, to protect your account.

Account data is stored on servers located in Australia.

Sharing a timeline

If you create a share link, anyone with that link can view a read-only copy of that timeline, so only share it with people you trust, such as your lawyer or a support worker. You can revoke a share link at any time from your account.

Payments

The tool is free to use. If you purchase the optional cloud backup, payment is handled by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. Your card details are entered with Stripe and are not stored on our servers. Stripe handles that information under its own privacy terms.

Email

Account and transactional emails (such as setup and password-reset links) are sent through a third-party email provider so they reach you reliably. We do not send marketing emails.

Analytics and cookies

This website uses Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how pages are used (for example, how many people visit a page). This measures website usage; it does not read the events you type into the builder, which never leave your browser. Analytics may set cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, and the tool still works.

Accessing, exporting or deleting your information

You can export your timelines yourself at any time from the builder or your account. If you have an account and want a copy of your data or want it deleted, you can ask us through the contact form and we will action it. Deleting your account removes your stored timelines and account details.

Your rights under Australian privacy law

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. That includes your right to ask what we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, and to make a privacy complaint. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy concern, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Children

Case Timeline is intended for adults dealing with a legal matter. It is not directed at children.

Private by design.
